ABOUT CUBIK INNOVATION LTD

PaniK technology, Paul’s first venture set up in Bristol in 1989, acquired an enviable reputation for delivering one-stop electronic design services to inventors, emerging businesses and corporations before its sale in 2011, boasting an extensive client list including Mars Drinks and Smith and Nephew.

After seeing the Science Park’s foundations go down from his kitchen window and going for a sneaky look around, Paul decided a second venture was the way forward and so, in 2012 Cubik Innovation was established, initially as a lifestyle business! Three years on Cubik have gone from the team of one to a team of nearly twenty technical and creative team members with a stunning client list spanning Bristol’s inventors to multinational companies.

One of Paul’s biggest passions is helping to develop the talents of our younger engineers with the majority of his time in the office spent mentoring his team, helping them find better ways of making things work. To this end, Cubik have a great history of taking on interns and apprentices and cultivating a lasting partnership.

Alongside managing the Production Team and all manufacture projects, Sam is integral to the running of our ISO:9001 quality management system and the strategic route planning of the business, working closely with Paul and Business Manager Sophie to ensure Cubik are delivering 100% on our customer’s expectations. Sam’s department has become the jewel in Cubik’s crown, with two production lines and designated prototyping areas, shipping a running tally of over 8000 units.

Russell Harris - Senior Design Engineer

Russell’s one of our multi-skilled, multi-talented team members - the go-to guy in Cubik’s design department for CAD and quality technical documentation. Russell was once one of our Plymouth University interns, first meeting Paul at his previous company where, under his guidance, he learnt a great deal about technical documentation, fault finding and testing.

Like most of us at Cubik Russell loves to travel, spending a gap year in Australia between his studies where he was able to practice his other love of landscape photography. Russell’s latest obsession is 3D printing, putting a lot of time into persuading Paul a 3D scanner is the next thing on Cubik’s wish list.

Shannon joined Cubik in 2014 as our very first apprentice undertaking her HNC in Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Wiltshire College. Having completed her HNC with a merit in the summer of 2016, Shannon has started her HND in Electrical and Electronic Engineering in September of the same year. In her time at Cubik to date, Shannon has been an integral part of the production team, and will be using the knowledge she has gained to take on one of Cubik’s toughest challenges, designing the company electronic Christmas card! Watch this space…

In her free time, Shannon enjoys making the most of her Bristol City FC season ticket, pledging her allegiance to the Robins from the singing stands.

Mercedes joined Cubik in the Summer of 2016, just as the business moved to its new premises! With studies in Product Design, Mercedes is perfectly placed to ensure the successful delivery of projects against time, cost and ISO:9001 standards; enabling a high-level awareness of sales, project progress and company quality procedure.

Will enjoys life at Cubik, especially “when it comes alive”, capturing the moment a new design powers up for the first time and starts to run, a perfectly articulated sentiment we all share. Will is one of our software stalwarts, starting off life at Cubik with assisting on one of our largest projects to date. Electronic Engineering and Software wasn’t always Will’s calling in life, he has a colourful and interesting career lead-up, working on solar farms in Spain for instance, certainly making for some interesting Friday afternoon anecdotes.

Steve Tucker - Assistant Production Manager

Steve is our procurement controller, managing the Goods in/Goods out to Cubik Production. He also plays an important technical part in our production department, taking on surface mount soldering work, production setup and the build of wiring harnesses. He has a background in a range of engineering based industries including mechanical design and roof and floor joist design, enabling an instinctive knowledge of ‘how to put things together’ which aids him well in life at Cubik.

James Nash - Senior Production Engineer

James brings years of Automated Surface Mount Technology experience and knowledge to Cubik’s production lab including Pick and Place, AOI and Reflow and has worked alongside Paul for a number of years. He is also highly skilled as a prototyping engineer, through-hole assembly technician and a registered IPC specialist.

Martin Coote - Principal Production Engineer

Martin has over 27 years’ experience in the electronics industry and brings a wealth of invaluable knowledge and skill to Cubik forming an important part of our in-house production facility. With outstanding skills in Surface Mount Placement and Rework, Martin is a dab hand and producing one-off hand assembled prototypes. With this wealth of knowledge our production apprentices are really able to gain a first-hand insight into the work of a seasoned electronic prototype specialist.

While already holding a Business degree, Camilla is always looking to add new skills to her name and so is now currently studying for CIMA which will definitely come in useful in her role.

Jean-Paul (JP) Astal-Stain is the latest intern to join Cubik, currently undertaking studies at Bath University in (MEng) Electronic Engineering with Space Science & Technology. JP chose Cubik for his internship year as he felt that he would be exposed to a variety of different aspects of electronics which we are certain we have delivered on!

Luke’s interests in problem solving form the backbone of his work at Cubik as he currently forms part of the Test Team which resides in the Production Department. Aside from work, Luke likes to keep up with his fitness and has spent 6 months backpacking around France. Luke is another Cubite who has a passion for his music, particularly listening to metal and rock whilst working hard. When asked what his favourite hobby is, Luke advised he has recently taken up alpine sports on the slopes of the Mendips and currently holds a Level 2 in Snowboarding.
