We are urging pet owners to watch out for potential hazards to their pets this Christmas, as findings released by the British Veterinary Association (BVA) reveal that in the south-west, 90% of vets saw at least one case of toxic ingestion in pets during the last festive period. Across the UK, chocolate poisoning in dogs remains…
We are pleased to announce that due to an upgrade of our digital x-ray processor in Sturminster Newton we can now offer digital radiography (x-rays) in our Blandford branch too! There will be no more developing x-ray images on photo paper in Blandford, giving us better quality images of your pets to help with diagnostics at both…
We all love our pets and, for 18 years, Friars Moor Veterinary Practice in Sturminster Newton has been giving me the confidence that I was doing the very best I could for mine.
I have been with Friars Moor Vets for 20 years and they have always provided me with a fantastic service, the care, compassion and honesty from Gilla Primrose was outstanding.
History of Friars Moor Veterinary Clinic
Friars Moor Veterinary Clinic is celebrating being part of the Blackmore Vale community for 60 years.
1981 saw the opening of a purpose built surgery on the corner of Manston Road and Friars Moor. At this point the practice name was changed from Coles and Partners to Friars Moor Veterinary Clinic. Tony Burch saw practice with Coles and Partners as a vet student and joined the practice in the late 1970s, followed by Roland Stibbard in 1987. Both Tony and Roland have recently retired, after many years at the practice.
Since 1957, the practice has grown and developed to support the needs of farmers as well as pets and their owners. Its expanded from one vet and his wife to a busy modern practice employing a dedicated team of 49 local people, including 20 vets, at branches in Sturminster, Shaftesbury and Blandford. It’s now a large local business but continues to work hard to keep the friendly, caring ethos and community spirit so important to Norman Coles back in 1957.
Friars Moor Veterinary Clinic’s official celebrations begin on 1st April, the day on which Norman Coles signed the agreement to set up the practice back in 1957.
I have been with Friars Moor Vets for 20 years and they have always provided me with a fantastic service. Their service is all about the welfare for the animal and the owner. One of my dog’s recently sustained a horrific leg injury and the care, compassion and honesty from Gilla Primrose was outstanding. She was so informative and the before and aftercare has been second to none.
We all love our pets and, for 18 years, Friars Moor Veterinary Practice in Sturminster Newton has been giving me the confidence that I was doing the very best I could for mine. The staff have always been friendly and approachable and whether the pets were in sickness or in health, I have always felt that I was receiving the best advice and they were getting the very best care available. Finally, when that time comes, that we all dread, when we have to say goodbye to our animal companions, I would like to pay tribute to the staff for the caring, professional way they provide this service .
The team at Friars Moor have looked after our pets for many years. The quality of veterinary care is always second to none. However, it has been during the more difficult visits to the surgery that the true extent of the team’s compassion and knowledge has really shone through. Last year, one of our cats, Bluebell, sustained a broken femur, amongst other injuries after being involved in a road traffic accident. The expertise and dedication of the team was just incredible and we are enormously thankful that they managed to save Bluebell’s life (and her leg!).
When we have been forced to say goodbye to our four-legged family members at the end of their lives, the team have treated both us, and our pets with enormous compassion. We can’t thank them enough for helping us and our beloved pets through that painful journey so sensitively. Each time we walk through the surgery door at Friars Moor, we know that our pets are in the very best hands, and we feel that our pets deserve nothing less.
Having been a client of Friars Moor Vets since 1998, I have witnessed many changes over the years. Considerable recent expansion has only enhanced the service provided whilst still remaining personable, friendly and efficient.
