Bob is a retired registered nurse. His career spanned over 40 years in both the public and private health sectors with experience both in acute care and management. His most senior appointment was as a Director to one of the, then, largest health authorities in the UK. Additionally he served for over twenty years as a commissioned officer in the Army Medical Services (TA). Retiring at the rank of Major, he took part in many NATO exercises in Denmark, Germany and Cyprus, was briefly attached to the Royal Danish Army, and during the first Gulf war commanded the UK Reception Centre for returning casualties. In Athletics, he is a senior coach specialising in Sprints and in Strength and Conditioning. He is a Field Official and Timekeeper and a past member of England Athletics South West Regional Council.
Richard has lived and worked in Gloucester all his life. Since 2004, Richard has worked for John Deere, before that, he spent 15 years working for the Whitbread Beer Company in various roles.
Albert has a diverse background in education, having worked for the local authority since leaving school in 1993. Albert currently works for Bristol City Council as a Learning Manager (Head of Year), and prior to that worked for Gloucestershire County Council in various settings within the Children and Young Peoples Service. Albert is no stranger to voluntary work and currently works with a number of governing bodies within the voluntary and community sector as a Volunteer, Charity Trustee and Company Director. Albert also has a strong sporting background as a participant, administrator, coach and official. Having competed to a high standard in both Hockey and Athletics, he has opted to focus on developing volunteers within the sport and has responsibility for Education, Training and Development of volunteers within Gloucestershire and the National Officials Forum.
Martyn White represents Gloucester City Council as a Trustee. Martyn is a retired local businessman who, until 2011, was also a City Councillor and Cabinet Member with responsible for the City's Leisure and Sports provision. Since his appointment to Cabinet in 2004 Martyn has always strongly supported the need for a quality athletics track in Gloucester. He negotiated the ring-fencing of £250,000 towards the cost and was instrumental in proposing the new Lease and transfer of the track management from the City Council to the new Trust. Martyn hopes to be able to contribute to the continuing success of GATM.
Sport has always featured highly in David's life and he competed in athletics and swimming and played rugby during and after leaving school. He started on a career in agriculture but was badly injured in a road accident and forced to change his plans. He qualified as a teacher, gained a degree from the Open University and for 17 years taught Geography in the West Midlands ending up as Head of Department in a large Comprehensive School in Coventry. He then moved south to help establish and run a successful field study centre in Hampshire. After taking early retirement from teaching, he became involved with a Training Project for young adults with mild to moderate learning difficulties, firstly employed as a team leader running a workshop and then continuing as a volunteer for a number of years after retirement. He has also served as a member of their Board of Trustees for the last seven years. He moved to Gloucestershire in 2009 to be closer to family. Through his grandson's involvement with Gloucester AC, David offered his services as a volunteer and Bob Purcell enlisted his help with a campaign to ensure that disabled athletes are better represented at Blackbridge Jubilee Athletics Track.
Dylan spent 28 years in the oil industry with Schlumberger, working in operations, engineering, research and management in the Middle East, Asia, Europe and North America. He is now a part-time engineering consultant and holds a number of voluntary positions including serving as a trustee for several charities and as a school governor. In his youth he was an athlete and rugby player, though his rugby participation is now limited to holding a season ticket at Kingsholm. He became involved in Gloucester AC when his daughter joined the club in 2009, and helps with field event officiating when needed.
