Iain Duncan Smith officially opened the Centre during a whistlestop tour on May 4th 2012. The Secretary of State for Work and Pensions and founder of the Centre for Social Justice was very impressed with the building and the team of volunteers who spent five years making this project come to fruition. He said: “This Centre is very much what we mean by the Big Society…people coming together through their family, community, through churches, to decide what to improve and to be involved with it and to work with the State in this. Congratulations to everybody who raised the money, for the leadership, to the architects for the intriguing design and to the builders for not building a straight line in the place!”

We are deeply grateful for the donations we received for the project from parishioners at St. Andrew’s Church, as well was grants from Devon County Council, and Uffculme Environmental Fund. We have also been awarded more than £700,000 from SWRDA (South West of England Regional Development Agency, with DEFRA as the Managing Authority).
