Philosophy and Ethos of the Unit
The standard of care practice and ideologies are firmly in the combined theories of psychodynamic therapy, person centred, and a behaviourist and a cognitive perspective. We use psychodynamic perspective to explore and understand past history and helping the practitioners understand why a service user behaves and responds in a particular way; the consultant assists the practitioner team and tangible ways to help and to enable the service user to become integrated with the aim for the service users to move on in their development philosophy is carried through in practice by offering the service users in the unit the opportunities to experience a therapeutic milieu and a variety of leisure activities and excursions that enable them to build on their social skills, team spirit and personal development.
In line with the philosophy and ethos our practice is as near to a homely environment as possible, subscribes to the psychodynamic theories and the behaviourist perspective following the perspectives by Bowlby and Winnicott. The importance is the relationships that service users hold with the adults that care for them and that the development of trust and meaningful non-abusive relationships will be positive changes and development.
