ABOUT GIVEACAR LIMITED

About Giveacar

Giveacar is a Social Enterprise; we are a small business who reinvests any profits straight back into our company. This enables us to continue recycling your old cars whilst raising money for charity. Our business is focused on giving back to those who need it most.

Launched in January 2010, just seven cars were donated in the first month, demand grew steadily. Giveacar now handles up to 500 cars and donates thousands of pounds to over 100 charities on average each month. Giveacar was the first service of its kind in the UK and allows charities to tap into a brand new source of funds. At the same time it gives car owners a simple way to get rid of their unwanted cars properly and put them to good use, raising money for their favourite charities.

Giveacar is a great success with both charities and the general public. To date we have raised over £2,000,000 for more than 2,700 charities and coordinated the collection of over 22,000 vehicles. We remain a truly independent social company, not owned by or tied to any commercial operation.

Giveacar is a not-for-profit business and we manage our costs by taking a nominal service fee from the overall donation proceeds.

The free to use recycling scheme called Scrap Car Plant Tree launched this week. It expects to fund the planting of 13 saplings on average per vehicle disposal. Motorists will be able to use the money raised through the disposal of their vehicles to plant trees in a city of their choice. Give A Car and Trees for Cities expect each disposal to offset around a year’s carbon emissions.

"Each car that is disposed of will offset at least one year’s carbon emissions and vehicles which are auctioned could provide significantly more carbon relief, which can only be a good thing for the environment," Alex Harvey, from Give A Car, said.

Give A Car was established in 2010 to get the best price for cars motorists were looking to scrap and then donating that money to charities. The company ensures it gets the best price for scrap metal and any roadworthy cars are put through an auction and receives their market value. Give a Car has s far organised the collection or sale of over 4000 cars and has raised over £800,000 for more than 1,000 charities.

Charitable Fulham company recognised at annual Sustainable City Awards

A not-for-profit company which raises money for charity was highly commended in a prestigious award ceremony last month.

Fulham based company Giveacar was honoured in the Sustainable Waste category at the Sustainable City Awards 2013.

The award-winning company, launched in 2010, is the UK’s first car donation scheme which allows owners to get rid of their cars with the proceeds going to a charity of their choice.

"It is exciting to reward brands and retailers which put sustainability at the forefront of their businesses and we hope they will use this as an incentive to do more and more in this direction," said Firth.

Scrap your car and help raise cash for Suffolk’s elderly

The charity, which helps 25,000 older people in the county, has joined Giveacar, a non-profit social enterprise which collects and auctions unwanted or unused cars for charity.

Among the 1,000 charities already signed up to Giveacar are St Nicholas Hospice Care and East Anglian Children’s Hospices.

Regardless of their condition, cars are collected free-of-charge nationwide by Giveacar then sold through an online auction or disposed of at an authorised treatment facility.

Ursula Austin, Business Development Manager of Age UK Suffolk said: “We are absolutely delighted to be included in this scheme and hope that many of our supporters and people in Suffolk will remember it and dispose of their cars via Giveacar.”

Giveacar awards

The Giveacar team and the service we provide have received several national awards for our contribution to society and the environment. Here are a few:

Nectar Business Small Business Award

'The contribution to the community award recognises businesses that create substantial benefits for the local community. Giveacar defeated a number of excellent social businesses due to an overwhelming public vote. The award was presented by Karren Brady from BBC One’s The Apprentice.'

'For organisations that have been trading for less than three years that can demonstrate an innovative business model or new way of doing business'...

A global competition looking for innovative social projects. We were the only UK finalist and the BBC filmed a 10 minute documentary on Giveacar - short clip below. We made it down to the last 12 finalists but missed out on a podium finish. We are thrilled to be considered one of the 12 most innovative social enterprises in the world though!
