Flying Start Tuition was established by Sian Goodspeed in 2008, following the birth of her first daughter, Charlotte. Having returned to teaching after her maternity leave, Sian found combining motherhood and school life too much of a juggling act and decided to make a career move. She wanted a job that would better combine her love of teaching with her family life and so Flying Start Tuition was born.
Initially, Sian tutored out of a small room at the back of her house but before too long, with demand for her services rocketing, Sian took on another tutor and moved to an intermediate venue. We believe that working with parents is key to a child's success and we offer comprehensive advice as to how parents can support their children, via information evenings and regular dialogue. Ongoing feedback is provided in the form of weekly report sheets and our door is always open if a parent wishes to discuss their child's progress at other times.
We motivate our pupils using verbal praise and by helping them to adopt a 'can do' attitude to education. Our comprehensive behaviour policy provides pupils with clear boundaries and consistency which encourages them to take ownership of their learning. We also use a rewards system of stickers, certificates and prizes that motivates students and acknowledges their achievements.
Sian Goodspeed, Flying Start's founder, and Claire Anjos, Director of Teaching and Learning, are certified practitioners of NLP. Inspired by the potential of NLP for enhancing children's confidence, independent thinking and learning, Sian decided to embed many of the tools and techniques into Flying Start lessons. To ensure consistency across the company all staff are trained in NLP.

11. We are not liable for lessons cancelled due to circumstances beyond our control such as adverse weather conditions, war, pandemics etc. If such events lead to the cancellation of lessons, no refund will be given. However, we will always do our best to offer alternative lessons wherever possible.
12. If you wish to withdraw your child from a course, please give at least one month's notice, for which the fees will be due. No refunds can be given for a child leaving partway through a month. Flying Start Tuition also reserves the right to levy an additional charge for any resources used by the child that have not been covered by the fees already paid.
13. If driving to the venue, please park safely and considerately. We are not liable for any damage to vehicles whilst parked in the venue's car park; nor can we be held responsible for any injury to persons whilst moving between their vehicle and the venue.
14. We strive to provide the best possible service. However, we will not be held accountable or responsible for the academic success or lack thereof demonstrated by the student/client. Although we will do everything in our power to help grades and skill sets improve, we can offer no guarantee thereto.
15. We are not liable for any direct, incidental, consequential, indirect, special, punitive or similar damages arising out of use of our tutoring service, or any errors or omissions in the content of our materials. You, the client, specifically waive any and all claims arising out of the use of this tutoring service.
1. Fees for tuition are at the rate stated in the letter accompanying these terms and conditions.
2. Fees for mock tests and mock test feedback sessions must be paid in full at the time of booking. Your child's place is not confirmed until we have received payment and we reserve the right to offer the place to another pupil if payment is not made in full at the time of booking.
3. Once booked, we are unable to refund mock tests or feedback sessions, however we will endeavour to offer your child a place on an alternative mock test or feedback session, if possible.
