Welcome to Words that Talks new Website. Well it’s been a while…… And thinking back to the beginning Wow how far we have come since we first launched our very first website back in 2009.
My name is Joy Blakemore and Words that Talk was then and still is my baby!
I am a qualified interior designer and have worked in the industry since leaving Art College back in the day. When interior design wasn’t on every TV channel or as popular as it is today. I worked in many different areas within this wide design field. From shop fitting to handmade tiles, always dabbling in words and lettering. I worked for a handmade tile company who used words on tiles behind the Aga in a kitchen to spell out a recipe or a list of favourite wines. This fascinated me and I loved the way in which people thought of imaginative ways to use words in their homes.
In 2009 the global recession hit and the construction industry died and I found myself out of work. But as I get older I have realised opportunity comes knocking in many different ways and I found myself in a “Nothing to lose situation” and Words that Talk was born.
Following the completion of a sign writing course, I started off creating vinyl quotes at home on the kitchen table. I loved the way a single word could look in different fonts and colours. The impact they can have when words are put together. I was inspiring peoples walls and loving it! It was both challenging and scary in the early days but with positive reactions from customers to my business and products I quickly gave me the confidence and inspired me to believe in myself, helping me to realise a dream that I could work for myself doing something I loved.
With time to play in the early days I quickly progressed from wall vinyl onto the creation of some wooden signs to sell alongside the quotes. If you are familiar with our ranges today this has taken over as the largest part of our product collections.
To start with we sold our wares at party plan events and small craft fair in our local area along with website sales. The business grow and grow until we found ourselves bursting at the seams in our home based workshop (Having to clear the table each night so the family could eat dinner) Far from ideal we struggled on through the Christmas season until we could spare some time to make a move.
In January 2012 we moved round the corner into our existing premises on Crossroads Business Park and have never looked back.
We begged and borrowed in the early days to fit out the showroom and workshop but have always strived to create something unique and different…. And we still get new customers coming in says “WOW….I didn’t expect to find this little gem at the end of the corridor!” We have had many changes and always strive to keep up with trends. Extending the showroom, office area and production spare over the years to accommodate the increase in production and sales.
We now sell Words that Talk products in many different ways. Through high street shops (Selling to trade companies), At large Country fairs around the country, (including Chatsworth, The Highland Show and many more) Via Party Plan and Personal Shopping events, Through our Website and Facebook Promotions and of course with daily visitors to our “Little Gem” of a Showroom/Shop that is based in Clowne, Chesterfield (just off junction 30 of the M1 in Derbyshire)
We now have an amazing team here at Words that Talk who work tirelessly to bring our customer an ever changing collection of products. And as always we are never short of new and exciting ideas for new collections, more just the time to create them. We pride ourselves on second to none customer service and hence we have loyal customers that return to us again and again.
As we create all the products ourselves from cutting and painting the wood through creating the designs and stringing the products we can and have done some truly unique pieces ( Take a look at our Gallery to see just a few of the one off items we have produced)
Our new website has been a long time coming but we are now very Pleased to share it with you all. You are now able to Purchase through our online shop as well as being able to see all our ever changing products collections. We will now be able to add new products as soon as they are produced, adding to and extend collection as we create them….Something that we haven’t been able to do with our old site. Hence keeping all our customers up to date with what’s new and exciting here @ Words that Talk.
