ABOUT PLANKBRIDGE LTD

Plankbridge are makers of fine huts, offering portable, warm and comfortable outdoor room solutions. Our shepherd's huts don't usually need planning permission and are delivered 'ready to go'.  Our signature windows and doors are made from durable English Oak, and we use British sheepswool insulation - a Plankbridge shepherd's hut is here for 100 years or more.  

Back in the year 2000 we, Richard Lee and Jane Dennison, were inspired by an ancient portable shepherd's hut near Thomas Hardy's cottage and felt strongly that the iconic shape and proportion may yield a useful contemporary space. Having trained as a designer maker at John Makepeace’s Hooke Park College, gaining an MSc in Forest Product Technology (Design and Manufacture), Richard decided to build a reproduction on a set of old wheels. One hut led to another and by 2007 Plankbridge was making shepherd's huts full time - we had become the Dorset hutmaker. We now have the country's most experienced and fastidious team of 14 full time hutmaker craftsmen, a CAD designer, painters and administrators working out of a 15,000 square ft workshop on a downland farm above Piddlehinton, in the Piddle valley.

Plankbridge has built Shepherds' huts and larger Living Huts for places across the UK, Europe and the USA  including Highgrove garden, Hampton Court palace gardens, The National Trust, Humble by Nature, Elmley Nature reserve and The Pig on the Beach hotel. You may have seen Plankbridge in magazine articles and features such as Elle Decoration, The Telegraph, The Times, Country Homes and Interiors, Country Life and on BBC television.
