HCR104fm’s re-launched soap drama is set in a small market town called Huntsford in the middle of the English countryside. Huntsford lives in a parallel universe version of our world, which is necessarily fictitious. Whilst Huntsford picks up on themes and issues that have a resonance here today, it simultaneously provides an escape from our here and now.
Action is based around five businesses, two hair salons, Wavelengths and Trimming World, Carmella’s Cafe, Bob’s Garage and Dave’s Sweet Shop.
Bob’s Garage is run by Bob Roberts and his son Robbie. Both Bob and Robbie are successful mechanics and the business is doing well, so much so, they need to take on a couple of apprentices.
I joined the team in Year 11 in gain experience in editing and radio. My favourite memory is my first show. My main role is to produce the show. Outside radio I like music production, playing the clarinet, guitar, piano, and sports such as football and tennis
I joined HCR104fm 2 years ago because I love media and wanted first hand experience of what a radio is like. My favourite thing is all the laughs with have an how close we all are as friends. In my free time, I like to play with my dog, see my friends or take pictures. I hope to study media production at University and eventually work in the media industry.
The station is a not-for-profit organisation, a registered charity and a limited company. There is a team of directors and senior executives working alongside a management committee planning and managing “round the clock” radio.
A key element of HCR104fm’s programme output is community focused, including ‘Over To You’ a weeknight community access programme at 7pm. There are also programmes on the local area, ‘County Matters’ each Sunday, a weekly special ‘Spotlight’ on Fridays devoted to music, general events and a programme for younger people named ‘The Student Zone‘. Students at local schools and colleges play a central role in programmes and production with HCR104fm and there is a popular training programme.
HCR104fm as a Not for Profit organisation can raise half its income from grants and donations. Many local people who perhaps can’t physically volunteer at HCR104fm, ask how they can help us? One way is through the Friends of HCR104fm, a support group, with low cost membership for individuals and families and a corporate membership for businesses and organisations. The rest of our income is through donations, advertising and sponsorship; many local businesses have sponsored programmes or advertised with us with great success.
We rely on advertising, fundraising and donations to help keep you entertained 24 hours a day. We help members of the public by training them in media techniques and encouraging them to broadcast. If you would like to support your local radio station, any size of donation would be gratefully received. Registered charity no. 1060739
We have a large team of volunteers who help run the station doing all sorts of jobs you might not expect. If you are looking to find out more about volunteering, please visit our
