The Landi Company Ltd was created from The Textile Conservation Consultancy in October 2008. The original practice was established by Sheila Landi in 1989 and moved to The Stable Yard at Burghley in 1992. A second workshop was opened in the Kennel Yard in 2002 especially designed to treat tapestries and larger objects such as curtains and wall hangings.
The Company has undertaken commissions covering all aspects of textile conservation and has served a variety of clients including museums, historic houses, churches, military organisations and private individuals.
The Landi Company is part of the
which comprises a number of other conservation businesses, based at Burghley, all with their own specialisms.
She has had many articles published and has also written "The Textile Conservator's Manual" which is now in its second edition with further revisions in the paperback version. On her retirement from the V&A in 1989 Sheila continued to work in private practice establishing The Textile Conservation Consultancy, which became the Landi Company in 2008.
Sophie has been working for the Company since 2007 and has completed her BA in Conservation and Restoration at the University of Lincoln specialising in textiles. She is continuing her studies at Birbeck College researching into the removal of mould from historic textiles.
Alison undertook work experience at the Landi Company in the summer of 2013 before joining the team on a permanent basis.
Valentina Lombardo, a textile conservator from Milan, is working with The Landi Company over the summer months and is proving welcome and very useful.
The Landi Company Ltd offers a full range of textile conservation services for the individual client, for large institutions and for anything in between.
As an off-shoot of its commercial activity the Company has also hosted many students on placement from university courses and on voluntary work experience.
