In 1997, Ayo Oshunremi, founder of Inspiration Youth Call, was diagnosed as severely dyslexic. Prior to his diagnosis, Ayo could not make sense of his life whilst living in Nigeria. He wanted to achieve something in life especially, he wanted education to have meaning to him but all to no avail. Ayo grew up in a dysfunctional background with no idea of what an ideal family is like. Ayo’s struggle continues into his early 20s and despite his challenges, he became a father at the age of 21 when he was still in secondary school. Ayo has no sense of direction and no real role model, everything he witnessed at the time could only lead him into a wayward life.
Ayo came back to the UK in 1988 and continued in the same vicious circle as when he was in Nigeria. Until 1997 when he found out a bit more about himself and with the reassurance of support. Ayo opted to receive necessary assistant as long as it would help him to make sense of his life. Ayo received necessary educational support and successfully completed a BA honours in Education and Community at the University of East London where he graduated in 2001.
Ayo was so inspired by what can be achieved and how his life had turned around that he wanted others to experience the same. Due to Ayo’s limitations in certain areas, he approached Lee Dixon (a colleague then at Basildon District Council) for support in establishing Inspiration Youth Call.
Inspiration Youth Call was founded in 2004 to support vulnerable young people from all walks of life, enabling them to develop socially and educationally and inspire them to achieve their individual goals. Since then our team have:
