Where we are
Country Fare is a niche Award-Winning Family Bakery based on a traditional Cumbrian working hill-farm in the beautiful Mallerstang Valley, which places itself in the enviable position of not only being in the Yorkshire Dales National Park but also it’s home of the Lake District. As you can image we are surrounded by amazing views and countryside – you could say we make cakes with a view!
Dianne Halliday started Country Fare in 1998 on the family farm; with a growing family, she wanted to have the ability to work from home. So she started making cakes originally in the Farmhouse kitchen. It soon became apparent that her customers enjoyed her family recipes and so a few years later a barn was converted into a bespoke bakery. It gives Country Fare the ability to still hand make their products but they have the capacity to make larger quantities too.
By the time Dianne started baking in her Farmhouse kitchen, she already had years of experience; as a little girl Dianne helped her Mother make their traditional family recipes which had been tried and tested throughout the generations. And thanks to Mrs Sayer, Country Fare still uses those recipes to this day. Dianne and her baking team, gathered from the surrounding farming community, have a hundred years of baking expertise between them.
Country Fare’s ethos has always been the same; to use quality ingredients, local wherever possible, and they always use real butter and farm-fresh free range eggs in all of their fruit cakes which are all handmade.
