Templar Wines
Founded in 2008, Templar Wines has been quick to develop relationships with high quality smaller wineries and agencies who want their wines consumed in restaurants, wine bars and Hotels, as opposed to supermarkets. Max and Jeff regularly discover new wineries that produce exceptional wines ideal for gastronomic venues, hotels and wine bars.
In 2014 Chad Christian joined Templar Wines from Hotel du Vin where he spent seven years honing his Sommelier skills. Chad works as a wine consultant for us, creating masterful wine lists for pubs and restaurants across the South Coast. It’s a full time job yet he still finds time to study for his WSET wine diploma.
Why Templar Wines?
If you are serious about food in your business, then wine becomes an essential differentiator to make good restaurants, great restaurants. At Templar Wines we select wines that will complement your food, deliver great value and ultimately get your customers raving about the wines and coming back for more.
The journey starts with a full business review of what needs to be achieved in terms of sales, reputation, margins, food and wine pairing, merchandising and staff knowledge.
Then comes the wine list, which is prepared and printed by Templar Wines, as the essential tool for uplifting wine sales.
Deliveries are made directly from our depot to your business or restaurant. Deliveries are made every week day with no minimum purchase in South Dorset, and to businesses all over the UK mainland where a modest minimum delivery may apply.
The journey culminates with full after-sales advice given on stock levels, staff training and regular full wine sales reviews. All are offered in a concerted effort to improve wine knowledge, sales revenue and positive customer feedback. The net result is that we grow our businesses together.
We are an expanding Wine Merchant. Our future plans center around developing our on-trade wine business, however we have an on-line wine shop, and have not ruled out a venture or joint venture into retail along with a delicatessen or wine bar.
If you’d like to join a progressive, forward thinking company and think you have what it takes to develop our wine business, drop us a handwritten letter explaining how you can help. We may not have a vacancy, but have expansion plans and are open to ideas and reply to everyone.
At Templar Wines as part of our green values we recycle all paper and cardboard packaging. All invoicing, unless requested, is electronically sent not to save our print costs, but primarily to save the postage delivery foot print.
We try to source as many wines as possible in bulk from the EU and are constantly working with our hauliers to minimize the physical movement of wine. 95% of the volume of our wine bought from the Old World (EU) is taken directly from winery to Templar Wines. We use bonded facilities which require whole pallet movement, again to reduce the amount of individual wine movements.
It is always a balancing act between being green and not compromising on core values regarding quality of wine, especially when it comes to deep water shipping. Essentially wine is best harvested, produced and bottled at the winery, where production and quality can be strictly monitored. The down side to this is that wine then has to be palletised and transported and shipped which is not the most efficient means of transport
Bulk transporting in flexi-tanks and bottling in the UK, is greener providing the bottles and closures are also produced and sourced from the UK. There can a drop off in quality, in our opinion, which sometimes means those wines do not pass our quality tests. We are pleased that our South African Cawston Crossing wines, Californian Compass Point White Zinfandel, the Australian The Landings, Red Rock, New Zealand Honu, Cloud Factory and Southern Lights, Chilean Poetus ranges are all exceptional quality and are bottled in the UK.
More and more we are sourcing organically grown wines made using sustainable wine producing methods. The Vrignaud Chablis, Domaine Tholomies, Sepp, Real Rubio Rioja and Adobe ranges have all been added in the last 12 months. Wines such as L’Auratae Nero D’Avola and Pinot Grigio from Italy, Santa Tresa Frappato and Gillo Viognier from Vittoria in Sicily, along with our first
Terra Sana all arrived in August 2015. Watch this space as we are determined to add more Organic and
As a Dorset based Wine Merchant we are constantly getting requests to support Charity Events. Charity, and being charitable, is important to us. We want to make a difference to people less fortunate than ourselves. We always contribute to our Restaurants and pubs requests to support their charitable causes which are important to them. Often support may be just a bottle or two of wine or providing support in person at an event. Being willing to donate time or wine makes us feel that our business is not all about the money and we can make a difference to people less fortunate than ourselves albeit in small ways.
In 2014 we decided to start to charge £5 to attend our free wine tastings. All proceeds go to charity. Since 2014 we would also focus on two local Charities and divide support between them. We are delighted to contribute to Dorset Blind Association and Lewis Manning Trust .
