Ithaca Partners was founded in 2008 with a mission: outstanding results, every time. Too much search oversells and under-delivers. The ‘red thread’ that runs through Ithaca Partners is the determination to prove to clients and candidates, with every interaction, that we will always deliver brilliant and effective search. It’s hard work but it’s hugely rewarding when you see the difference it makes.
Our approach gets excellent results. The norm for major search firms is that just 45% of candidates remain in their roles for 18 months after placement (source: The Economist 2014). Our comparable figure is 95%. We are also proud that since we started, every single assignment we have led has come to us on referral.
The island of Ithaca was Odysseus’s home in ancient Greece, which he left to fight the Trojan Wars; his journey home then created an adventure of epic proportions. CP Cavefy’s poem, Ithaka, draws out from Odysseus’s travels the sense of ‘enjoying the journey as well as reaching the destination’. That is both a neat summary of how the members of the Ithaca team feel about tackling our work and our lives, and also an appropriate starting point for the conversations we have with clients and candidates about their corporate and personal journeys. Often what we do for organisations and for individuals is help them visualise the ‘how do I get from here to that better place over there?’ A positive and productive journey is an essential ingredient.
