Who we are and how it began
Ellis Wharton Wines is the result of a partnership between former restaurateur David Ellis and Charles Wharton, ex wine buyer for a major brewery. Taking a fresh approach from start to finish, we wanted our business to focus on the small independent growers working sympathetically with the land, producing distinctive wines of quality and character. At the other end of the spectrum we aim to provide the customer, whether a private individual or a restaurant or hotel, with fantastic wines carefully sourced, backed with the great service offered by our passionate and knowledgeable team.
The list is ever changing as and when we find new wines to get excited about. We search for wines of terroir and typicity; wines of providence; delicious, tasty, unmediated wines which tell the story of the place they have come from and people who have made them. As such we find ourselves naturally drawn towards indigenous grape varieties, family-owned vineyards and sustainable viticulture. Between us we have over 50 years experience in the wine, restaurant and hospitality industries, so we very much look forward to being able to help you find wines that you will really enjoy drinking.
We are very proud of the relationships we have built up with our on-trade accounts and we are always interested in talking to people about how we can help support their business ventures, whether it is a new start up or someone is looking to liven up their wine lists with something unique. Who we are and how we began
We are an independent wine merchant based in the heart of Cornwall. Open to both retail customers and trade we are proud to count amongst our customers some of the best dining and drinking destinations in Cornwall, such as Nathan Outlaw’s in Port Issac, The Scarlet Hotel in Mawgan Porth and Ben Tunnicliffe at the Tolcarne Inn in Newlyn.
