Moor hounds is a traditional hunt steeped in history and boasting to be one of the oldest in the UK. With records dating back before 1730. We've collected together history and documents spanning the past two centuries with information of our heritage and how we came about to be the hunt we are today.
A week later and we all moved to Askham Bryan to run our Point to Point. This was our second visit to the college,an opportunity to "polish our act"from last year.Good Friday, set up day,was a lovely spring day, unfortunately this didn't last and on race day it blew a gale.Unlike last year there had been a meeting on the course a month earlier which had compromised the ground and led to the number of runners being reduced. We had a stream of compliments from the sponsors who seemed to enjoy the hospitality experience.Especially the home cooked buffet provided by Adele and her team,a huge thank you to them.
The 1*event had a fairytale ending being won by Connie WA in a cliff hanger show jumping element on Sunday afternoon. Also in July Marc ran a terrier show at Hillthorpe. They were blessed with a perfect summers day which helped with a good entry and successful afternoon. Frickley 2,held in September, was a much lower "octane"event than July, not to say any less successful.A tremendous amount of effort has been put into the horse trials by the organisers, along with increasing investment, has seen the events grow in both size and stature.Hopefully the BBMH will continue to benefit from its connections with Frickley for a long time.
The joint masters of the BBMH are working hard to ensure that all subscribers, members and farmers have a successful and most enjoyable season. From the start of September, we spend time visiting’s landowners and making plans for autumn hunting mornings and from the 1st Saturday in November the full hunting days. We spend many hours visiting farmers and landowners seeking permission to cross their land. They are also responsible for the hunt staff and horses.
Without the help and cooperation of many people our days would be much more complicated.
Out of season we are also working hard on the hunts behalf to raise much needed funds. Frickley Park Horse Trials has grown enormously over the past few years and many hands are needed to make such a prestigious event successful We would love to see more of our followers getting involved with the hunts events and helping if possible. The Point to Point at Askham Bryan is also another day along with Hunters trials at Campsall and North Lodge and the Masters Ball– they all take a lot of hard work and we would like to see more of you getting involved.
Funds are vital to the hunts sustainability so if you would like to offer to help with any kind of fund raising please do contact one of us and we will help all we can All this is done alongside their own personal lives and work commitments but it is a labour of love and one we are all exceptionally passionate about.
We are pleased to report the Mr Nick Thornicroft has accepted the role and along with wife Georgia they will be moving in on 1st May – Nick has been with the Sinnington for five seasons and although this will be his first position as a Professional Huntsman the Masters are fully confident in Nicks ability to carry the horn for the BBMH. Previously a professional cricket player we feel a summer cricket match and BBQ may be on the summer agenda!
On behalf of us all may I take this opportunity to thank all farmers, landowners, gamekeepers and others for allowing us to continue to enjoy this wonderful English tradition. Many thanks to all those friends of the hunt who give up their time in so many ways to help. We are exceptionally grateful to everybody.
One last request we would ask- Please do report to us any damage to fencing, land etc. so, that we can contact those concerned and rectify any issues. Horse prints on mown grass or broken fencing can soon be repaired if we are notified.
