The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organisations referred in its April 2006 alert to over 300 recent misconnection cases reported to it, 8 of which lead to patient deaths. Organisations in the USA and Europe are actively looking to introduce new standards and eventually insurance companies will force the medical profession to introduce materials and procedures which reduce these incidences.

Russ Tomlin, Technical Director of Ecoluminaire, has been looking into this problem for a number of years. An American medical associate had made Russ aware of a dramatic increase in patients tripping over lengths of oxygen and gas tubing resulting in near or fatal injuries.

After several years of investigation into all known lighting concepts Ecoluminaire has designed and patented a product which is brilliant in its simplicity, no more expensive to produce than existing tubing and which helps overcome the key problems of misconnection and tripping.
