Ionactive Consulting Ltd provides Radiation Protection Advice through our principal Radiation Protection Adviser (RPA), Mark Ramsay. Experience, competence, attitude and personality are our strengths, as is our ability to understand weaknesses and address them.
We endeavour to answer small queries as a matter of best practice and duty via email and also provide free radiation protection information and resource through this website.
Who is Ionactive Consulting?
Mark Ramsay started Ionactive Consulting as a hobby which has now grown to be a significant RPA service provider in the radiation protection industry. He is currently RPA for a significant number of organisations spanning all areas of industry, service providers and research in the UK and beyond. His varied experience in the nuclear industry and small user sector, together with an interest in novel training techniques are particularly strong assets. His training delivery methods are unforgettable! He aims to deliver a quality radiation protection adviser and training service, whilst maintaining and continuously improving the Ionactive web site.
In the UK we provide advice to clients who range from the smallest to the largest users of ionising radiation. Our advice covers x-ray sources of all energy ranges (i.e. research machines, quality assurance, baggage security systems, cargo scanners, sterilisation / industrial processing, linacs and other accelerators). As RPA we are usually appointed under the Ionising Radiations Regulations 2017 (IRR17) which defines the matters for which we must be consulted.
As a RWA our advice ranges from the small school source to the highest activity sources (i.e. radiometric gauges, nuclear research reactors, gamma irradiation facilities, process control, medical). Our advice therefore also covers the Environmental Permitting (England & Wales) Regulations 2016, the Radioactive Substances Act 1993 (in Scotland) and transport regulations. We also provide RPA / RWA advice for users of NORM (naturally occuring radioactive materials).
Outside the UK we provide an international radiation training and advisory service as a
To complement our advisory role Ionactive also provides the complete range of practical services including radiation and contamination monitoring, onsite gamma spectrometry, leak testing, risk assessment, contingency planning, monitor testing, critical examinations and decommissioning support.
