About The Fairtrading Post:
The basic ethos of the shop is to source fairly traded food and gifts from producers or suppliers and sell it in The Fairtrading Post. We aim to only buy stock from companies who are BAFTS (British Association of Fair Trade Shops) registered or who are members of WFTO (World Fair Trade Organisation), so that we can truly say that all of our stock is fairly traded.
The shop began in March 2005 and now employs in excess of 40 volunteers (some regular and some occasional helpers), who give up about two hours of their time to be in the shop serving customers. We also are happy to have stalls at special events and we would be happy to discuss having a presence at your event, if you would like to invite us!
The directors of The Fairtrading Post, Dolores Harvey, Lynn Marriott and Helen Chadwick and all the other volunteers who work in the shop, passionately believe in the ethos of Fair Trade.

For producers, Fairtrade means prices that aim to cover the costs of sustainable production, an additional Fairtrade Premium, advance credit, longer term trade relationships, and decent working conditions for hired labour.
When a product carries the FAIRTRADE Mark it means the producers and traders have met Fairtrade standards. The standards are designed to address the imbalance of power in trading relationships, unstable markets and the injustices of conventional trade (see our Links page for further, more in-depth information and resources).
Fairtrade ensure payments are made quickly to Third World suppliers as cash flow is essential to any business.
