The Friesian is a very special breed of horse, renowned for its luxurious appearance, friendliness, intelligence, adaptability and an enormous willingness to work. It is for all these reasons and more that these horses have captured our hearts, imaginations and lives. We are extremely particular about the quality of horses we own. We believe our horses are outstanding examples of the breed and our Friesian family has grown steadily over the years. Amongst our family we have Femma, the only MODEL mare in the UK and Breed Champion in 2008, Anja who became breed champion 2011 and Wouter who was Best Stallion 2011 and the only Friesian to have qualified as a 4yo and 5yo for the finals of the British Dressage Shearwater Young Dressage Horse competition.
Such is the effect these amazing horses have had on us that our lives are governed by them and everything we do is with them in mind. In between cleaning, caring for and working the horses, providing them for weddings, photoshoots or experience days, I dedicate a great deal of my time to promoting the Friesian in the UK. I was honoured to take on the role of President of the Friesian Horse Association of GB & Ire (FHAGBI) in 2011 which has enabled me, along with the rest of the Board and committee to help educate more people about the breed and get Friesian owners up and down the country in contact with each other. The Friesian studbook is one of the strictest in the world with very clear breeding policies and goals. Rynardt and I will always work within these guidelines and will strongly discourage the use of unapproved stallions due to the negative influence they can have on the reputation of the breed.

Welcome to Black Horses Ltd, a family business dedicated to Friesian horses. Based in the Lake District, we provide our Friesians for a range of activities either at our farm or further afield.
We are passionate about the breed and are committed to our Friesian breeding and training program using only top class mare lines and approved KFPS Friesian stallions. Our Friesian Experience days are aimed at those wanting to learn more about these fabulous horses and visitors will have the opportunity to ride and/or drive a friesian. For those just wanting to experience riding the friesians we have a wide variety of hacking and one of our most popular options is to take one of our horses down to the beach for something a bit faster!
Our horses are also available for weddings and special occasions in the North West of England and Cumbria and we pride ourselves on delivering the finest of service with magnificent carriages. We also provide horse drawn carriage rides round Cartmel village in the southern Lake District.
Our drivers have been trained by British Driving Society Qualified Instructors and as a very minimum hold the BDS Preliminary certificate and are qualified to drive horses on the public highways. Our business is approved by the Chairman of the BDS, Mr. John Parker.
