HELP - My email address is being closed down!
Email is an essential tool for modern life, for individuals it is vital for communicating with friends and family and accessing online services. For a business it is the lifeblood of communications with customers, staff and suppliers.
Many people have used 'Free' email accounts from the likes of freeserve, Wanadoo, Orange and other internet service providers (ISPs). In most cases the email address was provided as an adjunct to a dial up or ADSL subscription and usually had the effect of tying people into that provider due to the time and effort involved in changing email address.
Now many ISPs are closing the 'Free' email accounts they have provided, sometimes with only a few weeks notice of closure - most contracts state a 30 day notice period.
This is an opportunity to break free of being tied to ANY email provider and, as you are going to have to change email address in any case, to change to an email address you own and never need to change again.

No matter which operating system you buy now, at some point you will need to upgrade to Windows 10 or its successor. Until the release of Windows 10 my advice was to stick with windows 7 unless you were buying a touch screen device. Windows 10 seems to be much easier to use without a touch screen so I would not advise against it - however windows 7 professional is still available on business orientated machines. Unless you are planning on sticking with windows 7 until it goes completely out of support (around 2020) it now makes more sense to go with windows 10 as the 'free upgrade' is only available until July 2016.

After graduating in Computer Science from York University I worked for the BBC as an engineer for 10 Years before moving back to York in 1994 as an IT manager. After supporting several hundred users spread across multiple sites for 2 years I moved into more specialist technical areas providing ‘3rd level’ support for servers and for networks. In 1999 I moved into a specialised network role within a service supplier supporting large national networks. Unfortunately I was made redundant from this role after 4 years due to reorganisation. After taking 6 months off due to our son being born I found it very frustrating that I was seen to have ‘no recent experience’ and the thought of going back into a fixed 9-5 job became increasingly unattractive. Various conversations I had suggested that there was a need for my skills within the SME sector, which fitted with my desire for variety and flexibility - so here we are!
That's it plain and simple - I won't try and sign you up to a services agreement, sell you replacement systems or tell you that everything needs replacing - unless it REALLY does!
With over 20 years in IT working in corporate IT and latterly supporting SOHO and SME businesses I have a breadth and depth of experience.

Design / Specify / Build - For a new server, network or internet connection I can provide a design and installation service to ensure that you have a cost effective solution that does the job required and can be upgraded to meet future requirements.
Hardware supply - Although not a primary part of the business I can supply most items of PC hardware, I can also design and build PCs to an agreed specification but for 'standard' office requirements it is more cost effective to buy them ready built.
