Brig-Ayd Controls are one of the UK’s leading manufacturers and suppliers of Wheelchair/Scooter hoists, Hand controls, Left Foot accelerators, Steering knobs and other Driving aids for disabled drivers and passengers. Brig-Ayd Controls have specialised in car adaptations for the disabled since 1975 generating nearly forty years experience.
Our equipment is manufactured at Brig-Ayd Controls in Welwyn Garden City in Hertfordshire and is made to the highest engineering standard. Safety and reliability are the major factors influencing the design and fitting of our equipment.
It was in the late 1950's that Peter Briggs, Owen’s father first adapted a car to meet the needs of a disabled driver. His wife, who had contracted polio, had bought a new Mini. Peter, a chartered engineer who worked on servo systems for radar guidance during the war, used this experience to design and fit servo assisted hand controls with hydraulic links to the pedals of her car. Years later, after he had started trading as Brig-Ayd Controls, these servo systems formed the basis of many early adaptations and provided years of trouble free motoring for many disabled drivers.
Peter was joined by his son Owen in 1983. With their combined engineering expertise the business expanded and is now run by Owen and his wife Denise. The business, with its large fulltime staff now has two workshops.
Brig-Ayd controls Ltd is a family run business that has been designing adaptations for vehicles for the disabled since 1975. We have helped thousands of disabled drivers to be independent and have their own transport by using hand controls, left foot accelerators and hoists. These have all been redesigned since the first products were introduced. Brig-Ayd is passionate about the right product for the customers and has been responsible for many innovations that have become the standard for adaptations. We manufacture all of our products and supply over 7500 vehicle adaptations per year.
Over 100 installers around the UK and overseas have been trained by us to fit our products. Owen the Director is our design engineer and he is always looking at how to improve our products. His designs are unique and have led to us owning patents. We have made a huge investment in machinery and this has given us the freedom to improve our designs. Customers’ expectations are high and we strive on customer satisfaction. We have worked very hard over the last two years redesigning our hoist. It is important to keep improving and redesigning our products for ease of use to our customers and installers.
