Paul graduated in civil engineering before making a career change to accountancy in 1985. Although the change in direction was radical, the commercial experience gained from civil engineering proved useful and he has retained an interest in property and the construction industry.
Paul qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1988 after training and early post qualification experience obtained in general practice. Employment with a large firm provided national audit experience for major plcs and local authorities followed by consultancy work and secondment to an acquisitions and operations team. This gave valuable experience working on management and strategy.
Paul returned to general practice with Harrison Hutchinson (then Whiting & Co.) in 1991. He enjoys the positive aspects of helping people with their business and personal contact. This provides a varied workload including taxation, audit, accounts and business planning but also covering legal work, IT and employment issues. He is a member of the Tax, Audit and IT Faculties of the Institute of Chartered Accountants.
Stephen started with the firm straight from school in 1985. At that time the careers office had sent him for an interview as a "Trainee Order Clerk". The job on offer was a "Trainee Audit Clerk" but he accepted it anyway. Fearful of being overtaken by younger members of the team, in 2000 Stephen decided to take his professional exams for the ACCA qualification and he became a chartered certified accountant in 2004.
Stephen was appointed as Company Secretary when the firm was incorporated in August 2004 bringing with him 19 years of experience with the firm and its clients.
In October 2007, Stephen was appointed as a Director of the firm completing a 22 year apprenticeship.
