Bulkrite Limited is a family run business, conveniently situated 6 miles south of Shrewsbury on the A49 trunk road, on the outskirts of the village of Dorrington.
Bulkrite specialise in the design, manufacture and repair of all types of Commercial Vehicle Bodies – ranging from 1.5 tonne Dropside Platform Bodies to 45’ 4-deck Livestock Containers.
Bulkrite was established in 1978 by Fred Davies and his son Andrew at nearby Acton Burnell, where they operated a long established transport company specialising in the delivery of bulk animal feeds and grain since 1928.
Fred had, for many years constructed Platform and Tipping bodies for their own Company vehicles. In 1965 the Company purchased its first Bulk Blower on a 6-wheel Albion Reiver. The Company fleet gradually converted to Bulk Blowers, and by the mid 70’s the fleet was 100% bulk, with all the bodies being built in the Company’s workshop.
The Company was continually being approached by various other animal feed companies to build, repair and service bulk blowers, so in 1978 Bulkrite was founded with the purchase of the complete stock of bulk blowing spares from Callow Engineering from Skelmersdale, who were manufacturers of bulk blowers but had ceased trading.
By 1984 the Company had outgrown its original premises and purchased the nearby Workshops/Factory of J.H.Thorne & Son, who specialised in the construction of Livestock Containers.
With the combined knowledge and skills of the two Companies, Bulkrite was then able to offer a complete range of Bodies for the Commercial Vehicle industry.
The Company is now headed by Andrew Davies, with his wife Melanie running the Office. Andrew’s son Robert also works within the Company assisting in all areas of the business.
The workshop and manufacturing is controlled by Workshop Manager Richard Parry, who looks after the day to day running of the Factory. Richard is also involved in the design of new products.
Bulkrite also sells parts for most makes of Commercial Vehicle Bodies.
