Welcome to the world of Grumpy Sheep Music. We create fun, educational musicals and songbooks that are loved by primary and pre-school children (and their teachers!) throughout the world.
Based in Newcastle upon Tyne, in the North East of England, Grumpy Sheep Music began publishing children’s music in 2000. The company was created by Caroline Hoile, one of the foremost children’s songwriters in the UK. Caroline has a wealth of experience behind her, both in education and as a popular, established writer and composer of musicals for young children. She is also a qualified music therapist.
Since the late 1980's, through Golden Apple productions, Caroline has had a whole range of children's musicals published. These include well-known titles such a 'The Little Angel', 'The Gigantic Star' and the renowned 'Grumpy Sheep.'
Grumpy Sheep Musicals are written with great care. Although they are aimed at younger children, Caroline expressly uses rich ideas which inevitably have a simple moral or ideal running through them, uniquely blended with a strong, dramatic story line.
The original songs, which interlace each musical, are instantly attractive; they are fun to learn, have uplifting melodies, and are just so catchy! Each musical has an accompanying professionally produced CD, featuring both the songs and vibrant backing tracks.
From small beginnings, Grumpy Sheep Music now supplies musicals, Christmas nativities and songbooks to thousands of primary schools and nurseries throughout the UK and abroad, as well as music and book shops, church groups, theatre groups and individuals.

Grumpy Sheep Music licences are now available to buy individually as a stand alone item on the product page of each musical online. Just select your Instant Performance Licence from the 'Buy now' table at any time before your performances take place. (Please note, if you are selling tickets or wish to record your performance this licence will not cover you. Instead please copy and complete the Performance Rights Licence form found on the last page of your musical and return it to us.)
Alternatively the back page of each of our musicals incorporates a Performing Rights Licence application form.
