Hawkspear Contracts Limited was formed in October 2002. During its formative years the company carried out a wide range of groundworks projects of varying scales predominantly for private clients and satisfied its customers in terms of quality, cost and programme. It was another two years before it became a full time role for the founding directors Phil Woolland and John Symes in June 2004.
By the summer of 2005 - the company had expanded its workforce and management team to enable it to secure larger projects working as a specialist subcontractor for main contractors whilst still undertaking the smaller scale groundworks that had been its foundation of the early years. This in turn led to further opportunities and the turnover continued to rise steadily to circa £1.5M.
The ability to manage the scale and complexity of works with varying contract values has created numerous opportunities for us in recent years and we have maintained our position as a trusted and proven contractor who believes in supplying best value for our customers whilst delivering works ontime and in a safe working environment. Although our core operations and expertise are in groundworks and civil engineering projects this does not limit our involvement to any new developments or business opportunities and we will always be willing to examine any project and offer our opinion and practical solution where we can.
In 2013, we have seen the number of live contract sites we are involved with significantly increase such that we have made further investment with additional supervision and management recruited in order to maintain our great relationship with our valued customers and ensure that the high standard of our safe systems of work are being carried out across all sites as previously demonstrated by the hands on directors. It was also the year we eventually got around to launch the new website and to further enhance this milestone we introduced an eye-catching new look to the fleet of vehicles.

These values are more than just words. They are at the core of our beliefs and are encompassed throughout all our policies and procedures including health and safety, environmental, ethical conduct and business development which have all been created inhouse to allow us to focus on repeating our success across all sites wherever we have a presence .
Phil established the company with John in October 2002. Intially this was on a part time basis before the lure of larger contracts resulted in total commitment in June 2004. Phil was keen to create a team that could enhance all the values that Hawkspear Contracts promotes. A keen eye for detail and for proposing value-engineering options are just some of his qualities to mention. Actively involved in the day-to-day running of the business with a flair for managing the cashflow which can be taxing at times but he always manages to get through the week before taking out any frustrations on white golf balls at the weekend and like John enjoys a regular flutter on the horses too.
Involved in the formation of Hawkspear in 2002. John has gone from having dark hair to a subtle light shade of grey over the last 10 years !! His engaging personality has built some lasting client relationships with a burning commitment to always get the job completed ontime. John looks after all the construction operations and has a flair for dealing with the labourforce with his unique descriptive instructions. Without doubt his power of recall is excellent and whilst this helps with his indepth knowledge of horseracing it doesn't mean that he can actually pick a winner - although he does try almost daily!!
Joined in 2005 to further his duties of QS and become an active team member with a variety of other roles and responsibilities. Ben will be involved from tender procurement through to final account agreements. He believes in creating good client relationships with his enthusiasm and willingness to please others. He performs a great supporting role to the directors, which has allowed the company to increase turnover annually since 2005.
Company Secretary
Isabel has fulfilled this role since our formation in 2002. Initially on a part-time basis although as the success of the business demanded more & more of her time she decided to leave her previous roles in the banking sector and commit full time to the cause in 2006. Basing herself in our accounts office on the Wirral, Isabel is responsible for our bookkeeping and accounts payable. Sadly though, she bucks the trend of Hawkspear employees being Liverpool supporters and follows the other reds at the opposite end of the East Lancs road and despite this being a diffcult burden to carry she manages to remain cheerful & helpful.
