About Lorne Laboratories
Lorne Laboratories is the only independent company in England that for forty years has sought to provide a simple and total solution for Blood Transfusion professionals across the world. Lorne was created by biomedical scientists who believed that the manufacture and distribution of reagents and associated products for blood transfusion could be provided professionally, ethically and with quality at the centre of all that it did.
Today, the Lorne team believes that providing high quality and affordable solutions can make a difference to those blood transfusion professionals in over 90 countries in which it operates. This vision has been backed by years of investment to ensure that the finished product provides reassurance to all that use it and has earned Lorne a deserved reputation for quality. The Lorne management believes in providing the following benefits to all its customers:
Quality products professionals can trust
A Brief History Of Lorne Laboratories Limited
1974: Lorne Laboratories Limited was set up to supply reagents to the NHS
1996: Lorne begins selling blood transfusion equipment. The BBTS Meeting in 1996 witnessed Lorne displaying a platelet incubator and a blood bank fridge. Initially sales were confined to the UK, but by the end of the following year, Lorne was selling equipment through distributors in several places around the world.
Lorne was named after a region in Scotland. One of Lorne’s founders, Colin Campbell, came from the area around Oban on the west coast. Apart from Lorne Laboratories, the name Lorne is most associated with the peculiar square sausage that comes from the region.
Lorne introduced many innovative ideas that have been copied by blood transfusion services and competitors throughout the world. For instance - Lorne designed the first flat pack for dispatching antisera through the post - now every company does that!
2005: Christine Rayner joins Lorne as Consultant Marketing Manager. She quickly expands her role as the company becomes more customer-focussed and she has been, for many, the face of Lorne at exhibitions in the UK and abroad.
Lorne was the first company in the world to add green colour to AHG - now standard practice throughout the world. The green dye was a blend of the blue and yellow dyes used for Anti-A and Anti-B.
Lorne Laboratories Limited
Lorne is more than just an independent UK company with 40 years’ experience of providing quality blood transfusion solutions.
It is more than just an ethical company that strives to provide health care professionals with quality products at affordable prices.
In reality, Lorne is a network of blood transfusion expertise and retail experience spread across eighty different countries on five continents. This network of partner companies shares a common interest in developing new products and offering the best solutions for blood transfusion professionals.
Lorne has a simple philosophy. It seeks to provide only high quality blood-grouping reagents, diagnostic kits and laboratory equipment. It does so at affordable prices. And it backs this up with excellent customer service.
Over the last forty years, Lorne has seen that philosophy transform the company from a small UK operation to one that spans the globe. The Lorne name is known and respected in over 90 countries around the world and it has come to mean ‘quality’ to the many blood transfusion professionals who use the products, both in the UK and across the five continents in which it operates.
Lorne is a company created for transfusion professionals, by transfusion professionals. The company was started by a blood transfusion biomedical scientist and is still owned to this day by blood transfusion professionals with experience in UK and overseas Blood Transfusion Centres.
Lorne Laboratories Ltd takes its responsibilities as an employer, a supplier and a customer very seriously. Lorne is committed to the highest standards of social and environmental responsibility and believes that its activities should not have a detrimental effect on the environment, its employees, consumers, suppliers and any other stakeholders.
Lorne has adopted a range of measures to reduce its carbon footprint. In recent years, it has used international exhibitions as an opportunity to meet with its suppliers and distributors. This has reduced the air miles travelled by company representatives. The company also seeks to procure supplies that will further reduce its carbon footprint. This includes the introduction of plastic (PET) vials, which have a lower carbon footprint to produce and, being lighter, have a lower carbon footprint to distribute. They are also easier to recycle and dispose of, compared to the glass alternative.
Lorne is a member of the local community as well as the global community. It regularly supports local initiatives and charities as part of its social responsibility obligations. In recent years, the company has featured its fund-raising teddy bear at UK exhibitions, raising money for charities such as Children with Cancer.
