ABOUT YOUNGS JEWELLERS LIMITED

Anne trained and taught Cathryn all aspects of jewellery making and repairs, both in silver and gold as well as Whitby Jet and bead restringing. Cathryn was employed by Anne for nineteen years.

Nadine began working for Anne in 1990, she began helping with repair work and cleaning up castings and eventually progressed to her own designs and commissions.

Born in Whitby in 1953, Sandra left school in 1968 to work for Mr Frank Kirk at Kirks Jewellers, Flowergate, Whitby. Sandra trained in all aspects of the jewellery trade from buying and selling to small repairs, rethreading, displays, stock levels, invoicing and valuations. Later, Sandra worked for Helen Taylor as a main buyer and also gained a diploma from Mikimoto Pearls.

In 1994 Sandra moved to Youngs Jewellers and worked for Anne for 10 years using all her knowledge gained previously. In 2004 Sandra went into partnership with Nadine and Cathryn when Anne retired and sold the shop. The shop has carried on in the same way, maintaining the high standards that Anne set.

Youngs Jewellers is situated at 45 Skinner Street next door to Elizabeth Botham’s Bakery. Skinner Street nestles between the town centre and the west cliff.

The monastery laid in ruins until the end of the eleventh century when monks from Winchcombe and Evesham travelled to the north and settled. An abbey was refounded with help from the Percy family and a new Saxon monastery was built on the site. The eastern end of the church was rebuilt in around 1220. The end of the Abbey came in 1540 and was granted to the Cholmley family. Since then it fell into disrepair and was robbed for its building materials. The central tower fell in 1830 leaving the remaining ghostly shell you see today.
