Who we are
Husband and wife team Ken and Brenda Gilbert are the Directors of SAMS and first started in Lettings in 1987 so we have a wealth of experience in the Lettings business and are 100% lettings focused. Being Plymouth born and bred we have a great knowledge of the area and use this to help advise landlords going into the property buy-to-let market. Also, being hands on shows we are still passionate about the business and we have a great common sense old fashioned work ethic.
The photo on this page shows us receiving an award at the Plymouth Business Show for the Best Show Stand which was quite an achievement and very much appreciated after all the hard work that went into this.
It’s all pretty straightforward really, we like to say “Yes” and do what we say we’re going to do when we say we’re going to do it which is pretty hard to find these days!. Those who know us well realise we’re a no nonsense Company who talks straight and has sensible pricing, both for landlords and tenants alike and our reputation is one of fairness. A lot of our work comes from referrals which is the biggest compliment you can get. We find a lot of other Agents target us as they can’t live up to the standards we set and we say we are often imitated, but never duplicated and also that we don’t have competition as no-one else does business like we do. We know there are other management companies but there is no better service.
How we are different
Well for a start we’re 100% exclusively dedicated to lettings, no property sales, ever! A lot of Estate Agents went into lettings in the housing crash a few years ago when there was a lot of negative equity and sales dropped off, but their expertise and knowledge is nowhere near of a standard to ours. We see it day in day out, they are all show and no substance. Why would you give an Estate Agent who sells houses a property you have to let? It doesn’t make sense! We are also independent, so the decisions are ours to make as there is no head office setting targets and making pushy deals. We manage our properties as if they were our own, that’s the effort and pride we put into our lettings.
Yes, we are in business and have overheads and costs and are here to make a profit like all businesses and landlords too, but we like to think we give a great service for a realistic price and we don’t charge for a lot of things other Agents do as we simply can’t justify them. For instance a local Agent is charging additional admin fees to prepare a tenancy agreement, log a deposit, to name but two things and this is on top of management fees in excess of 19%! We give a fantastic service for down to earth prices! We don’t compromise on service because we’re not charging a lot, we just believe in giving great value for money and the ongoing repeat business we receive proves we are right.
