Who we are
Phoenix Enterprises is an independent social enterprise whose commercial activities support training and employment opportunities for people in the Swindon area with mental health issues. Founded in 2002, it is both a registered charity and a company limited by guarantee governed by a small non-executive Board of Directors.
Our Mission
Our mission is to work with adults experiencing short or long-term mental health problems, these range from depression to autism, and also people with learning difficulties, physical disabilities and people who are struggling to return to work. We act as a stepping-stone towards jobs in competitive employment by giving people the opportunity to rebuild their confidence whilst learning new skills in a productive and supportive environment. We achieve this by providing the following services:
Liaising with counsellors, GP's, social workers/case workers and the Job Centre to ensure that support is targeted to the specific needs of each member and their families
Helping to educate employers about the stigma attached to mental health, learning and physical disabilities.
For businesses we provide a quality mail fulfillment, product assembly and related services Please select Business in the main menu for full details. The people that come to us are hard working, motivated and eager to feel accepted by society. As members of the Phoenix team they provide a first rate service.
For individuals we offer work experience, help with CV writing and interview techniques, one-to-one coaching in basic maths, literacy, the internet, life skills and a day centre to come to have a place in which to feel included and have fellow members to socialise with. We offer a happy, friendly, companionable place to go to. We work with local companies to bring in commercial contracts whenever possible so that our members get genuine work experience.
We are a non profit organisation so all the money we make as a business goes straight back into uppotying out Service Users, providing uniforms, safety shoes and work training as well as personal support. It provides support for our Service Users and their families and recreational activities such as board games, books, DVDs, pool table, computer equipment, team building and member/family days out. It also helps us to have a 24 hour emergency phone service so that each Service User and their family has a number to call and voice at the end of a telephone giving them support whenever they need it.
Donations from individuals and local organisations are crucial for fully funding the charity as, unfortunately, the business income is not enough by itself.
After my mum died my life fell apart. I even thought about suicide. Phoenix helped me pick up the pieces.
I have struggled to gain employment in the past because potential employers couldn't see past my physical disabilities. This knocked my confidence. With the help of Phoenix I regained my confidence and determination to get into the workplace. I am now successfully employed and I'm loving my job! Thank you to Phoenix. I couldn't have done this without your help and support.
