I founded Smith Bellerby in 1999 and now manage the telecoms team and provide the company’s focus for the sales and marketing activity. I have a background in Procurement management with a number of large, blue chip engineering companies, and I’ve found this to be particularly useful when negotiating with utility suppliers. I fill my spare time with military history, hill walking and the odd glass of red wine.
I’m a Chartered Engineer and I manage the energy and water teams and oversee the quality and management processes within the business, including ISO 9001. I’m a firm believer in the concept that utility companies should only be paid for what has actually been used – not a penny more nor less! As an aid to relaxation in the little bit of spare time that I get, I enjoy hill walking, gardening, reading complex mathematics text books and (occasionally) playing the saxophone.
Following my retirement as Head of Global Strategy for the GKN engineering group, I find that playing golf isn’t quite enough to keep the grey cells active, so I also provide Jenny and Steve with help to keep the business moving in the right direction.
I am a Utilities Analyst with responsibility for a number local authority clients, looking after their electricity, gas and water billing. Previous roles in engineering and IT have provided me with advanced Excel and database skills which are most useful now. I also spent 5 years working on utilities for a local authority buying consortium.
With a background in Business and Finance, I spent my formative years in energy trading and demand forecasting at Gaz de France and npower. I joined Smith Bellerby in 2009 as a Utility Analyst and have my own portfolio of clients in both the public and private sector. My current role is highly varied, covering energy procurement, invoice validation, supplier management and client liaison.
I’m responsible for managing all the telecommunications data that is processed by the business, both incoming and outgoing. In the short time that I’ve been with the business, I’ve perfected processes for emailing thousands of files to hundreds of clients each month, and have helped to develop our billing portal for those clients who want to see their bills online. My spare time is taken up with playing tennis, learning to play electric guitar, and I’ve just started learning to play golf.
I’m a bit of a wizz when it comes to spreadsheets, and undertake much of the ongoing forensic data management work for the business. I also deal with a lot of the “straggler” bills, which, for whatever reason, cannot be added to consolidated invoices and must therefore be processed separately. In the small amount of spare time that being mother to an eight year old son allows, I’m learning to be a circus knife thrower!
As the company's Head of Marketing, I enjoy working closely with the team to ensure that we provide value to our clients, delivering Utility Insights and industry news across all our online channels.
I'm primarily responsible for managing our digital marketing strategy and operations, which means that I'm always looking for new ways we can help clients and add value using digital media.
I'm a Utility Coordinator, responsible for fielding various day-to-day queries for energy billing. I am also involved in reviewing and managing energy billing for several clients. My educational background in physics and mathematics provides me with various analytical skills and a useful level of computer literacy. Whilst away from work I spend my time furthering my knowledge on various parts of scientific history and reading classic fiction.
