About Custom Cages
As you would expect Custom Cages is a very different company from the one formed by director Roger Nevitt 31 years ago.
Today serving professional motorsport teams is the driving force behind Custom Cages, designing, developing and manufacturing roll cages for teams competing in WRC, R1-R5 classes, Super 2000, FIA GT3, WTCC, BTCC, international historic rally events and a myriad of other motorsport categories. Manufacturing every roll cage for the whole 2014 grid of NGTC cars in the British Touring Car championship shows how far Custom Cages’ has come. Our customers also include car manufacturer’s works motorsport teams.
We also have sections on the different grades of steel which can be used and the function of each tube as you may want to add further tubes to the cage design you have selected. And, in case we have not answered your queries, we have included a FAQ section which we hope you find helpful.
Safety in motorsport is paramount and this has led to increasingly demanding regulations. Just look inside a WRC works rally car to see how sophisticated the latest roll cage designs have become! Custom Cages works closely with the FIA and MSA to ensure all its cage designs meet the latest technical regulations.
To verify that a roll cage has been designed to the appropriate MSA, and in specific cases FIA, technical regulations competitors may need a roll cage certificate or Letter of Conformity. We have a Certification section to help explain things.
A quick guide to what each tube does in making the roll cage as strong and safe as possible.
Important for latest generation saloons with a steeply raked windscreen to provide additional support to the top of the A pillar/roof section. Now required by the latest FIA regulations.
Lighter than a full roof cross but provides less protection – acceptable for race cars.
Allows the front suspension loads to be fed into the whole cage structure; provides protection for occupant’s feet. It also improves side impact protection and increases the load capacity of the ‘A’ pillars/lateral hoops.
In order to compete in MSA/FIA events every vehicle, which has a certificated design of roll cage, should have a copy of a valid certificate to present at scrutineering. Custom Cages has certified the majority of popular roll cages. All other roll cages comply with MSA/FIA regulations and receive a Letter of Conformity for competitors to present to scrutineers.
To obtain a certificate for a self-fit roll cage, the installer must complete a Custom Cages weld test.
Custom Cages’ roll cage kits include a weld test sample. Once completed these are returned to the company for load testing. They are subjected to a physical test to assess the actual yield strength of the weld. This ensures that the self-fit roll cages achieve the highest standards of integrity.
