Who We Are
Company Director
I initially started Carlton Professional Recruitment Ltd in 1998 after seeing an opportunity to run a veterinary recruitment agency that would offer both the personal and friendly service I required along with the professional approach needed to ensure a reliable and effective recruitment service. I continue to work part-time as a practicing veterinarian allowing me to stay in touch and “in-contact” with the veterinary profession first hand. We are truly a veterinary company run by a vet for the veterinary profession; understanding the needs and requirements of veterinary practice along with the excitement and joy derived from a career in the veterinary profession.
I joined Carlton Professional Recruitment back in June 2015, previously being a dental nurse and then moving to high street recruitment. Great customer service I believe is key, I love to give that personal touch and by focussing on your needs you can ensure that you will get the highest level of professional service.
I always achieve the very best for clients and candidates alike and believe that a professional attitude delivered with the personal touch is key. With a varied background and business experience including recruitment, HR and customer service; I am always available to help with any queries you may have regarding your veterinary career.
Professional, reliable, friendly, very helpful – have actually only got work through Carlton Professional Recruitment, so far. Also has good opportunities and try to find me work in my local area or wherever I need it.
Does Carlton Professional Recruitment run Payroll?
No. The reason for this is to keep our agency fees substantially lower than if we did. This means we charge the veterinary recruiting business a fixed day fee for supplying a veterinary locum. The veterinary locum will be paid directly by your business as a contractor, independent to our agency fee. This keeps all charges and fees very transparent.
This will depend on how you engage the locum. Locum vets are independent contractors and generally will work on either a self employed or limited company basis or will engage the services of an umbrella finance organisation to invoice on their behalf. In engaging SE or Ltd Co contractors, as long as you ensure they are aware of and compliant to the IR35 legislation then they are responsible for paying their own national insurance contributions. However if you engage a locum and process their P45 through your PAYE system then they are deemed as “employed” by the practice and yes, the business is liable to contribute to employers national insurance for them. It is more common for locum vet nurses to be engaged by the practice on a PAYE basis due to difficulties in achieving IR35 compliance however each case should be assessed independently. This needs to be borne in mind when negotiating the rate of pay for employed verses contractor individuals, as contractors will be paying their own NI contributions and so will be factoring this into their rates.
