ABOUT ACORN HOUSE LTD

is the Managing director and founded the business 25 years ago. Phil joined the Royal Air Force as a young man to train as an engineer. When he left the RAF he moved into the construction industry and began to develop a business which eventually became Acorn Construction. He subsequently moved from Cheshire to re-establish the business in the West country and was awarded a prestigious project by the Crown estates to build a new period style farm house in Somerset. As Philip says “ the style and size of the project suited us down to the ground and the result was a lovely house of which we were justly proud ”.

Classic and period houses are an important theme that can be seen in many of the properties built by Acorn across the region but lately we have moved to more contemporary styles and "we are specialising more and more in sustainable technologies which without a doubt are far better for all of us. Solar eneregy and heat pumps now augment our standard high spec insulation and underfloor heating."

Operations Manager, joined the business in 1989. Steve is the front line partner in the business. He is the key man throughout any project. His experience is brought to bear on the day to day running of the sites and trades. Trained originally as a bricklayer, he has a thorough understanding of all areas of a build programme and liases on a daily basis with Building Control Officers , tradesmen, suppliers, and all people connected with a site development. Most importantly Steve talks to the customers in order to smooth the process from start to finish and enjoys the challenge of keeping all parties happy and informed. In his words “ people first and business second is my motto . I enjoy building a good property and am more than happy to work with our clients as partners to ensure a great result “.

The core activity of our business is bespoke house building, we have over the past 20 years constructed some prestigious properties that have won critical acclaim from both planners and clients alike.

we take seriously our responsibilities to building in an environmentally friendly way . We are experienced in timber frame construction, heat source pumps, solar panels, under floor heating and much more.

Our construction knowledge is at the cutting edge and as the regulations and sustainability issues evolve, so do we. We want our clients to feel confident and happy in what we do and our goal is always to deliver high quality results on time, and on budget.
