A joint venture project between Quantum Care and Hertfordshire County Council to provide elderly persons and dementia care for the local area. The home occupies a derelict school site immediately alongside the ‘New River’ which provides drinking water to London.
This home provides more radical architecture than previous examples for Quantum Care. The front communal area adopts a curved façade with zinc cladding and clerestory style windows, while the main bedroom area beyond has a more traditional feel to blend in with nearby housing. The building is arranged over two storeys, with the front section adopting a full steel frame while the bedroom areas utilise traditional loadbearing masonry construction with precast concrete floors and a combination of precast concrete and trussed rafter roofs.
The home will provide 75 bedrooms, plus two specialist bariatric care suites, and is being fully detailed and coordinated in BIM.
