Why ‘The Professional Decorating Company’?
Michael Higgins started H&S in 1987 as a small business working with just brushes and paint. It was a far cry from the H&S of today, which can handle huge industrial blasting and spraying jobs on bridges and stations throughout the rail network or tackle the most challenging decorating tasks on major works throughout the country.
But with the benefit of hindsight success should come as no surprise. And it’s not happened by accident. H&S has grown directly from the firmly held belief that you should always try to be the best at whatever you do. And that to attract and retain clients you have to develop a way of working that differs from the norm.
Which is why ‘The Professional Decorating Company’ is more than just a line on a brochure or website.
And why the bulk of our turnover is accounted for by repeat business.
Michael began his working life as a 16 year old apprentice, stripping wallpaper and painting fascia boards. He soon began painting and paperhanging and by 19 had become a foreman. The setback of redundancy at 20 spurred him to branch out on his own and in the early years he relied on the toughest out-of-hours jobs for business. But having met an interior designer he began decorating celebrity houses and room sets for Sunday magazine supplement shoots. As a result he was able to progress and find work with some of the major contractors, many of whom he still works for today. He puts the success of H&S down to the simple philosophy of aiming to be the best you can at whatever you do and delivering quality on time, all the time.
