Originating from W Bates & Son, Bates Wharf Marine Sales has a wealth of history.
W Bates & Son was formed in 1934. During the war with over 150 employees, air sea rescue vessels, sea plane tenders and the like were built for the MOD. Just after the war, the arrival of the famous and now classic “Star Craft” went into production. W Bates & Son were the founding boat building company at the conception of the now London Boat Show, exhibiting a 25’, 33’ & 40’ Star Craft in the “Marine Section” of the 1948 Motor Show in Olympia.
Established in 1992 by Richard Bates and David de Vere, Bates Wharf Marine Sales is well known as one of the leading boat brokers, and specialists in Sports Boat & Cruisers. In 2007, £1.7 million was invested into the largest boat showroom and chandlery on the river Thames. This complements our existing marina and workshop facilities. No longer do you have to endure the rain & cold in order to see the boat of your dreams. Adjacent to our main showroom we have a dedicated on land sales area and on water pontoon for our larger sports boats and cruisers.

Tony has a long history in power boat sales and joined our company in 2002 after having worked for Bayliner in Windermere for over 15 years where he gained extensive experience in American power boats. He oversees the after sales service and gives extensive tuition to new and used boat owners.

Freddie has been in the boating industry for twenty years, starting his career in Brighton Marina. Freddie joined the Bates Wharf partnership in 1999 offering the company a coastal option and progressing into the sail boat market now as a leading Beneteau dealer.
Chris joined us in 2013 and helps with all aspects of the marina including assisting with the crane.
Gavin has a wealth of knowledge from his many years in the marine industry. He worked with Bayliner for over 20 years running the Poole office. As Manager of our Poole showroom Gavin has extensive experience of all aspects of running a successful boat sales company.
Gemma has been with Bates Wharf since 2005 and has blossomed into a vital part of the company specialising in Bayliner power boat sales. She also manages the administration and day to day running of our Poole & Southampton office.
Steven Chambers comes to us after many successful years with another marine company running their Poole location, and has over 20 years experience in the US Sport Boat and Cruiser market starting at Poole Aquatic working with our own Gavin (Poole office) with Bayliner, and more recently with Cobalt and Regal with Gibbs.
