At Charles Grosvenor Ltd we have over
In 1965 Bob Annis, managing director of Charles Grosvenor, converted his first loft working as a sub contractor. Some years later he formed his own company and in 1973 Charles Grosvenor completed it's first loft conversion, a copy of the structural plan still hangs in the reception of the head office.
Charles Grosvenor expanded quickly, converting lofts further afield in Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Surrey and Greater London. Within three years the current premises in Worcester were no longer suitable and the company re located to Redditch, Worcestershire. Although the site has been re developed and extensively extended the head office and factory unit is still based at this location today.
The company has continued to grow over the many years of trading, enabling the working area to expand to cover an area from Staffordshire and Birmingham down to the South Coast including towns such as Guildford, Reading, Bracknell, Swindon, Bristol and counties including Berkshire, Sussex, Wiltshire, Gloucestershire, Somerset and Devon. Loft Teams working in these areas are supervised by area managers working under instruction from the directors of Charles Grosvenor. Bob Annis has always maintained his hands on approach to business and still makes weekly visits to project sites to ensure that high standards of work and customer care are maintained. He is available at the head office to offer expert advice, guidance, and re assurance to clients concerning their conversion.
Now Bob's son Russell has joined the family business as director and carries on the tradition of designing and building conversions of the highest quality to make sure that our customers requirements are always met. From the design to the completion our team will ensure that your loft conversion will be constructed with the minimal amount of disruption and be completed to the highest standard.
A Charles Grosvenor conversion incorporates within its design a ‘suspended floor’. This means that NONE of the new load is supported by the existing ceilings; instead such new beams are located onto proven ‘loadbearing’ areas only – so eliminating vibration and cracked ceilings. We use only the finest timber joists and Tongue & Groove floor grade chipboards. The structural design of the floor, which incorporates large timber or steel beams, is always carried out by a qualified Engineer.
To avoid potential condensation problems, sloping walls are constructed as above, but with the addition of 2in. timber ‘spacers’ to provide ample air circulation.
Recent changes in Building Regulations make use of roof-lights a more common practise that it was. They provide all the light and ventilation required without altering, to any great extent, the outside appearance of the property. They can also be the ‘alternative means of escape’ helping to meet the relevant fire regulations.
Charles Grosvenor has no fixed specification for window frames, but rather encourage our clients to choose from conventional timber frames, or UPVC double-glazed as preferred. You may be intending to change all your existing windows in time, so choose the type that suits your final scheme.
As major manufacturers of purpose made staircases you have the choice of conventional softwood stairs ready for painting and carpeting. We particularly pride ourselves on our skill in making and fitting stairs over your existing stairs and achieve that feeling of continuity.
All walls and partitions are plasterskim finished. Softwood skirtings and architraves are fitted. No painting or decorating is carried out by the Company. Doors are unprimed ply finish. Access panels are of the hardboard type.
Charles Grosvenor Ltd is one of the leading loft conversion companies in the UK. We are an established family run company, offering a friendly and professional service and all of our work is fully guaranteed for your peace of mind.
