Debossing and embossing are similar processes that create a different result. Both processes involve making a graphic plate and counter. The plate is mounted on a press and the paper is stamped between the plate and counter. This force of pressure pushes the stock into the plate creating the impression. Embossing creates a raised impression on stock – pushes the image above the level of the paper. Debossing is the reverse of embossing. Debossing creates a depressed impression on stock – pushes the image below the level of the paper.
If the leather is only 1mm thick then you are likely to only achieve an impression 0.5mm deep, so this needs to be borne in mind when selecting your leather. With thin leather if you want to achieve a deeper impression then inserting someething like a 1mm thick sheet of silicone rubber beneath the leather can help drive the stamp deeper than the thickness of the leather.
What happens is thet the water swells and softens the leather fibres and when you press the stamp in the fibres compress and go darker in colour and the moisture is forced into the adjoining fibres, making the leather bulge upwards into the cavities on the stamp. This results in a beautiful impression with nicely rounded raised sections around the stamped graphics.

For custom stamps we normally take less than a week to dispatch following your initial enquiry, sending you a PDF or jpeg proof via email and making the stamp following your approval. If for any reason things look like taking longer, we'll always keep you informed. And if it is urgent, do tell us and we'll try to beat any deadline you have to meet.
All items will be sent either by Royal Mail First Class Recorded Delivery, or for heavier items we use UPS next day delivery to the UK mainland. Remote areas such as the Scotttish Highlands may take longer to deliver. For all other locations please contact us before ordering so we can provide an individual shipping quote.
For all bespoke stamps we require full payment upon approval of submitted proof. Once we have made the stamp/stamps we will be unable to offer refunds or take cancellations, purely because they are bespoke and therefore of no use to anyone else if you change your mind. However, in the unlikely event (we have stringent quality control) of having taken delivery you find the product to be faulty please return it by recorded delivery with your description of the problem within 30 days of your purchase and we will issue a full refund.
For all other non-bespoke stamps and products if for any reason you are not satisfied with your purchase you may return it within one month by signed for delivery stating your reasons for return and we will issue a full refund provided the reasons are genuine.
