Universal Care was set up in 1986 by Universal Care’s Chairman, Peter Cullimore and his late wife Gillian. Peter was concerned that the only option for many people was to move into a residential home. He felt that forcing people to leave their homes just because they required care was both inconsiderate and unnecessary.
With this philosophy Universal has grown over the last 29 years and many of our clients have come to us as a result of personal recommendation. We are proud that our clients recommend us and this is firmly based on the caring nature and dedication of our staff.
We believe strongly that a happy worker makes a better environment for all concerned. For this reason, we're very selective about the carers we employ and the standards which our staff maintain. Providing ongoing support and training, we ensure that all of our carers are happy, confident and able to provide the most comprehensive care at home services. We encourage and support staff in attaining qualifications in Care. In recognition of our commitment to our staff and the training they receive Universal Care is an accredited Investors In People company.

After almost 30 years of running Universal Care, Peter continues to find the success of the agency as rewarding as ever. Peter is still in touch with many of our clients and carers on a regular basis. He believes that the success of our agency is dependent on our high standards and in the time and energy invested in making sure we recruit the very best carers available.

"I have been looked after by Universal Care for over 2 years and they also helped to look after my husband after he had a stroke. This was about 20 years ago and went on for over 7 years. I would recommend anyone who has a need for assistance to employ Universal Care. Their understanding and sympathy are splendid."
"I have been receiving day care for 5-6 hours per week for five years. Most of that time I have had the same two or three carers so the continuity has been very good, one carer has been with me for the full five years. All of them are well trained, helpful and welcome in my home."
"My physically disabled son has live-in and day-time carers provided by Universal Care. He has been a client since 2003 and says the past few years have been the best, with a team of three regular live-in carers on rotation. Knowing the carers well gives him and us, his parents, peace of mind. The carers are very friendly and fun people for my son to be with."
