ABOUT HUNTER & HYLAND LIMITED

Hunter & Hyland is one of the UK’s oldest drapery hardware manufacturers and has been crafting luxury, bespoke curtain poles, finials, tracks and blinds in England since 1889. We are proud holders of the Royal Warrant and Made In Britain Marque.

To ensure the very highest quality, the vast majority of our bespoke commissions are completed and hand finished by our own Master Craftsmen at our Leatherhead site. We produce a vast range of bespoke wood, brass and acrylic curtain poles and finials with an unrivalled array of specialist finishes and paint colours. You can choose and combine different poles and finials from classic to contemporary designs to create a solution for almost any style, shape and size of window.

The first records of Richard Hunter and Lambert Hyland making curtain poles and hardware date back to 1889 in central London and we have been making luxury bespoke hardware ever since. There has always been a focus on quality British manufacture and this will never change.

The company started as a busy workshop on New Oxford Street. Then as it grew, production moved to High Holborn then Red Lion Square before moving to Battersea after the Second World War. The company moved again in 1976 when the business moved to Leatherhead to accommodate an ever-growing team where it still resides today.

Hunter & Hyland has always been a family business with family values at its heart. It was owned and run by its founders until the 1920s and has since passed through several families.

The business is now operated by Jonathan Moon who maintains the goal to stick to the roots of the business – producing quality, British curtain poles with a focus on design and longevity, offering clients the ability to purchase all required workroom essentials.

At Hunter & Hyland we believe in creating a beautiful product that is both functional and aesthetically pleasing. We strive to continue the tradition of using luxurious materials and traditional methods to craft our poles whilst looking for innovative solutions to modern drapery challenges. We are very proud of our capability to manufacture a solution for almost any window at our workshop and continually work to keep British manufacture alive in the luxury market. We believe in using sustainable materials and manufacturing methods and constantly review our techniques and materials to ensure they fulfil this requirement.

Hunter & Hyland is a proud holder of the Royal Warrant, having held this for over 30 years. We are members of the BIID. Hunter & Hyland is pleased to be able to display the Made in Britain Logo across the made to measure range, as British manufacturing is something that the company strives to promote as an ideal standard. We are also a Living Wage accredited employer.

By nature, a Hunter & Hyland product is of the highest quality and all products are extremely robust and of a timeless design. Therefore, their lifespan is longer than a less expensive high street counterpart, making them more environmentally friendly from the outset. When disposed of, virtually all parts can be dismantled and, in the main, recycled. A service is offered by the business to refurbish products – this can include painting to suit a new colour scheme, re-polishing, re-plating and re-lacquering which can, in turn, increase a product’s life-span.

Hunter & Hyland has also taken steps to improve the social issues that can be faced when using overseas suppliers for necessary hardware items. For the Indian element of production, a factory is used that has very good social policies regarding working conditions and is well known for its treatment of its staff.

Ultimately, Hunter & Hyland’s policy is to continually strive to decrease its impact on the environment and to act in a socially moral way when dealing with staff and suppliers. The future of the wood and manufacturing industry is wholly reliant on a focus on improving the way we use our raw materials and changing our relationship with the environment to support that. Hunter & Hyland and its employees will remain committed to making that happen.

Here at Hunter & Hyland we are always looking for talented and hardworking individuals who can offer something new to the team. If you have great carpentry or design skills or have a fantastic sales record, send your CV to
