Shardlow Village has a unique place in the history of the country - The 18th century canal port, with its associated wharves and warehouses is clearly to be seen. Originally a river port, Shardlow developed greatly with the opening of the Trent & Mersey Canal in 1770. The decline of the business brought different uses for the warehouses but the area remains remarkably unchanged. With canal-side pubs and restaurants (8 pubs in one village!) there is plenty to see and do. We are easy to find and convenient for the Derbyshire Dales and the National Forest. East Midlands Airport is close-by and both Derby and Nottingham with its Robin Hood country are all within easy reach. A 24 hour bus service travels between Derby and Leicester calling in at EMA, the market town of Loughborough and numerous villages along the way.
