The annual Wiscombe Park awards presentation evening is nearly upon us. Those who have previously attended are aware of the relaxed social atmosphere but this year we have the addition of the The Wiscomb Simulator courtesy of Bob Pritchard. An opportunity to get some closed season practice.
The finale to the 2017 season at Wiscombe Park saw the final qualifying round of the Wiscombe Park Championship as part of the MG Car Club event and a round of the national series of the National Hill Climb Association.
The event also confirmed Ian Inglheart as the 2107 Wiscombe Park Champion in his Westfield-Cosworth. The 2015 winner being only the second driver to take a second win in the series. The Plymouth driver finishing over five points clear of runner-up Ben Bonfield in the Austin Mini he shares with his father Tony.
The following day the weather conditions continued to provide a challenge to both competitors and organisers but Bideford's Pete Short was undeterred as he claimed FTD durng the Top 10 Run-Off with a climb of 45.34 seconds on his KTM. Honda CRF rider and current champion Tommy Hodges took second just over half a second in arrears. Paul Jeffery aboard his KTM SRF slotted into third and takes his tenth national series win as a result (subject to official confirmation).
The Wiscombe Park season continued with a double-header of action from Torbay Motor Club and Wildlife Autosport (May 13/14).
The Torbay event, sponsored by prestige car supplier HR Owen Ecurie, provided Rod Thorne with the first of a further two victories to take maintain his 100% strike rate in 2017 Wiscombe Park meetings.

Man in form, Richard Spedding took his third successful Run-Off victory at Wiscombe Park hustling the fleet GWR Raptor to victory with a climb of 34.66 seconds ahead of Alex Summers who really maximised the strengths of his DJ Firestorm to finsh ahead of championship leader Trevor Willis and Will Hall.
