he Leicester Galleries was initially established in 1902 by Cecil and Wilfred Phillips under the business name of Phillips Brothers. Ernest Brown then joined the brothers in 1903 and formed the company Ernest Brown & Phillips, which traded as The Leicester Galleries until 1977.
In 1977 Christopher Phillips, the grandson of Cecil Phillips founded Leicester Art Books which dealt in art reference books until 2003. Since then the main activity has been private research into the extensive archives and business records of the Leicester Galleries
